Process
I love creating artwork and the idea of recreating The Fallen Angel had always been in the back of my mind for a long time, so I finally bit the bullet and started. I’m not a fine artist that can paint right on the canvas, I needed to sketch out the lineart to feel safe. So I used the grid technique which is just a grid on both the canvas and image you’re referencing to recreate the lineart practically perfectly. The next step was to add a base coat, I chose hot pink, so the skin would have a bit of a pinkier under-tone than normal. For the next 25 - 30 ish hours were just painting away details throughout the piece. I had started with the chest, arms, and legs, before working on the head and wings. I knew I couldn't put off the hands forever, so I did it painstakingly, but it turned out great. The main parts I changed were the wings and face. The background was a little rushed, however, I think it holds a bit of character and adds more to the piece overall.
Acrylic on canvas.
